 ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?

According to the Bible, many people who sincerely believe that they are Christians and think that they will spend eternity in heaven are absolutely wrong.  Unfortunately they are on their way to hell.  This is clear in Matthew 7:21-23.

Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”  (See also Luke 13:24-28)

How do you know if you are truly saved?  For many years I thought that I had been saved, or born again, at the age of twelve.  I went forward in church--I prayed the “sinner’s prayer,” and was baptized.  I “believed in Jesus” and was told that I was saved.  But as I got older there was no evidence that I was a child of God.  I was living a very sinful lifestyle.  Although I considered myself to be a good person, I was actually filled with unrighteousness, drunkenness, sexual immorality, blasphemy, and selfish ambitions.  The scripture clearly states that they that do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.  (1 Corinthians 6:10, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:5, etc.)  Regardless of the “decision” I had made 10 years before, I was headed straight for hell.

Thankfully, when I was twenty-two, God did a work of grace in my heart and I surrendered my life completely to Him.  Jesus became my Lord and my Savior, my treasure, the love of my life, and I wanted nothing more than to live my life totally for Him.  Nothing has been the same since.

Paul said in 2 Corinthians 13:5: “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
